Stop the Bleed

SKU: STB  “Stop the Bleed program will launch in November”

Length: Hours  2

Traumatic injuries happen every day, vehicle & industrial accidents, gun and knife assaults are leading causes. The most common cause of death with these events is severe uncontrolled bleeding. Death can happen within minutes.

Knowing how to effectively recognize and control or stop severe bleeding is a skill everyone should be able to do. “Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma.”

Due to many situations,  delays between the time of injury and the time a professional First Responder is on scene, can result in an unnecessary loss of life.

Without civilian intervention in these circumstances, preventable deaths will occur.

The ‘Stop the Bleed’ campaign was initiated by a federal interagency workgroup convened by the National Security Council Staff, The White House. The purpose of the campaign is to build national resilience by better preparing the public to save lives by raising awareness of basic actions to stop life threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies and man-made and natural disasters. Advances made by military medicine and research in hemorrhage control during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have informed the work of this initiative which exemplifies translation of knowledge back to the homeland to the benefit of the general public.

“Stop The Bleed” program was recently brought to Canada and implemented here in Toronto by the Sunnybrook Hospital Departments of Emergency Medicine and Surgery.

FAST EMS has just been granted an authorized partnership and trained to deliver this exciting new program with certification from the “American College of Surgeons”. Participants taking the Stop the Bleed course will receive a full coloured manual and wall certificate.

The focus of this program is on:

  • Recognize life-threatening bleeding
  • The immediate response to bleeding
  • Appropriate ways to stop the bleeding

The only thing more tragic than a death from bleeding…

Wow! What a fascinating program, we learned new information about the control of bleeding and how to effectively use the latest techniques. This course goes beyond a regular First Aid program.
I feel far more confident, should I ever need to use these new skills. I am so excited I became an instructor!
